A Journey Through the Five Elements and the Five Senses
In the timeless setting of historical Nara Prefecture, cofunia invites you to experience a stay inspired by the ancient Chinese philosophies of yin-yang and the five elements. Each building is designed around one of these elements —wood, fire, earth, metal and water — each offering a distinct mood and experience.

Accommodations: 4 guest lodges (8 beds total) + 1 dining building
Each lodge is equipped with a private bathroom and toilet.
Total site area: 700㎡ (around 7,500 sq. ft.)
Symbolism of the Five Elements: The Meaning Behind Our Logos
The logo for each lodge, as well as the dining building, are inspired by the philosophy of the five elements. Each logo is based on ancient Chinese pictographs and oracle bone script, visually representing one of the five elements.
Our concept also draws on the origin of the Japanese character “墳 (hun)”, representing ancient burial mounds, which is associated with the idea of “a place where flowers bloom all at once.” Each logo takes the form of a petal radiating outward, symbolizing the energy and direction of the five elements standing in harmony.

“Kogane” : Metal Room
(2 single beds)
With the soft shimmer of brass accents against deep indigo walls, Kogane evokes the nostalgic charm of a classic Western-style villa. This single-story retreat offers a serene space to pause, reflect, and enjoy a moment of quiet luxury.

“Mizu” : Water Room
(2 single beds)
Mizu brings out your playful spirit. A small treehouse-style loft evokes a sense of playful wonder, while the sleeping area is wrapped in a traditional mosquito net made from fine Nara linen. A blue sofa handcrafted by local artisans completes the refreshing and airy atmosphere.

“Tsuchi” : Earth Room
(2 Single beds)
Made with earth from the nearby ancient burial mound, Tsuchi feels like a tranquil cave beneath the ground. Climb the softly-lit stairs and you’ll arrive at a sunlit bedroom with sweeping views of the mound itself. Awaiting here is a peaceful stay in harmony with the land.

“Ki” : Wood Room
(1 Queen-size bed + 2 extra beds )
A cozy, cabin-like space that can accommodate multiple guests, featuring the warmth of reclaimed wood. Ascend a small staircase to the second floor, where a spacious bedroom can comfortably host up to four people.
“Hi” : Fire Room
(Accommodates up to 20 people)

Within the philosophy of the five elements, fire represents joy. Inspired by the traditional earth stove once found on this land, our communal dining space is designed for gathering. Here, travelers come together to share food, stories, and the warmth of a collective flame.
Wake to birdsong, spend the day in nature, and fall asleep to the gentle hum of nighttime insects.
